The Great Comet of 1997
1997.08.01(bottom) & 09(top). Since the June shot in the previous picture the earth moving around on the inside track has created a perspective change. These two shots eight days apart show Comet Hale-Bopp steadily backing away from us and trailing the heavier particles below & behind with the fine spike of the anti-tail coming directly off the coma. Photos by Noel Munford & Ian Cooper. 400mm lens @f/6.3, 15 mins on Fuji P800 from the Manawatu Observatory.
